Jordy Bahl Will Miss Entire 2024 Season With ACL Injury
Last June, following the Oklahoma Sooners’ third consecutive Women’s College World Series championship, Jordy Bahl shocked the softball world by announcing she would enter the transfer portal and move back home to Nebraska to finish out her collegiate softball career.
Losing Bahl was the equivalent of a football team losing their Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback, as Bahl was the best player in college softball last season, and proved that point with a dazzling performance in the Sooners’ postseason run.
Oklahoma found a way though, as they always have under Patty Gasso, and added a plethora of talent in the circle this offseason to try and offset the loss of a two-time All-American. Meanwhile, Bahl had her sights set on leading her hometown Cornhuskers to Oklahoma City this summer.
Unfortunately, that’s not how things will play out for the junior right-hander. During Nebraska’s first game of the 2024 season, Bahl suffered an apparent leg injury and needed assistance getting off the field. Fans feared the worst, as her health was vital to their chances of making a postseason run, and on Tuesday those fears became reality.
Bahl announced via social media that she suffered an ACL injury on opening weekend and will be forced to “support the Red Team in a different way than anticipated for the 2024 season.”
With the injury, Bahl will redshirt in 2024 and hope to make a return in 2025. The injury also opens up the window for a return in 2026, if she should choose to do so.
Through her first two seasons at Oklahoma, Bahl was one of the best pitchers in the country, regardless of experience. She amassed a 44-2 record as a starter for the Sooners and maintained a 0.99 ERA over 288.2 IP in 2022 and 2023. Bahl allowed just a .153 batting average to opponents and struck out 397 batters to just 152 hits.
Bahl was named the WCWS Most Outstanding Player in 2023 after going 4-0 in OKC with two complete-game shutouts, 24.2 IP, and zero runs allowed, allowing just 12 hits while striking out 33 batters and surrendering just one extra-base hit in her last stretch with Oklahoma.
