When Neal Brown and the West Virginia Mountaineers take the field against Penn State to kick off the 2024 season, they will be doing it sporting a new look in Morgantown.
According to a report from 247Sports’ Mike Casazza, West Virginia will be sporting a new all-black jersey combination in the Spring Game as well as the season opener against Penn State.
While ‘Eersnation coined the term “Coal Rush” as the official name of the alternate jersey, Casazza shot down the term by saying, “That’s the idea right now. I didn’t say coal rush though. Not a description I heard or used, likely because of the white elements.”
The Mountaineers are expected to debut a trial run version of the jersey combo in the team’s spring game on Saturday, April 27th before busting out the black jerseys against Penn State on Saturday, August 31st.
West Virginia lost their season opener on the road against Penn State in 2023, 38-15, but with the home-field advantage at Milan Puskar Stadium in Morgantown, West Virginia will have an opportunity to shock the world in front of their fans while wearing some new threads.
