West Virginia G Jeremiah Bembry Seeking Medical Redshirt for 2023-24 Season
West Virginia head coach Josh Eilert provided an update on freshman guard Jeremiah Bembry on Friday mentioning that Bembry is seeking a medical redshirt for the 2023-24 season.
Bembry played in eight games this season for West Virginia before being shelved due to a lingering shoulder injury. His last action came on January 6th against Houston.
In his short time on the court for the Mountaineers, Bembry recorded a total of four rebounds and three assists in 3.3 minutes per game.
Coming out of Executive Education Academy High School, Bembry was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and checked in as the nation’s 265th-ranked prospect. He was also listed as the 48th-ranked point guard in his class and the ninth-ranked player in the state of Pennsylvania.
Bembry earned some big praise ahead of his freshman season with 247Sports Director of Basketball Scouting Jerry Meyer raving about the Pennsylvania native.
“At 6-6 has tremendous length for a point guard,” Meyer said. “Extremely thin, though. Needs to put on mass and strength to be effective at college level. The lefty has a reliable, keep them honest shot. More of a set shot than jump shot. Prefers to penetrate. Ambidextrous handler and finisher. Best dribble move is a left to right crossover. Crafty player with body control. Loves to utilize the Euro-step, pivots and fakes. Sees the court well while on the move. Has a post up game. Is a versatile defender with good hands. With weight gain should develop into a good rebounder.”
West Virginia will now be down a member for the remainder of the 2023-24 season, and despite the loss of Bembry, Josh Eilert’s squad will take the court next on Saturday, February 17th at 5:00 PM CT against the 12th-ranked Baylor Bears.
