Grant McCasland Asked About Big 12 Coaches Getting Technicals vs. Iowa State

With Jerome Tang, Bill Self, and Scott Drew among the coaches receiving technical fouls for protesting calls in Ames this season, Texas Tech head coach Grant McCasland was asked for his thoughts on the situation.

McCasland’s team had just lost 82-74 in Ames and was awarded a technical of his own during the game. One reporter asked McCasland for his thoughts as to why that might be during the post-game interview, which prompted a short but sweet answer from Texas Tech’s head coach.

“Yeah, honestly I don’t know anything about that,” McCasland said, per Cyclone Fanatic. “I just respect the way they compete, they play the game really hard, they make it difficult on you as an offense to feel space, and you have to attack them. The more you can attack them, the more you can put pressure on them. That said, I did think we got to the foul line in the first half, but just not enough.”

With his technical foul, McCasland joins the likes of Jerome Tang, Bill Self, Scott Drew (twice), and Rodney Terry, who have all received technical fouls this season while coaching against Iowa State.

While Hilton Magic has usually been about the atmosphere and performance by the fans and team, the “magic” might now include frustrating opposing coaches, in Ames, and on the road.

The gritty Cyclones will take their top-10 ranking into their Monday night match up with Houston in a battle for first place in the Big 12 Conference.
