Kansas State C Ayoka Lee Out vs. UCF

Kansas State center Ayoka Lee (50) is greeted by teammates Zyanna Walker, left, and Taryn Sides during NCAA women's basketball game against Iowa, Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023, at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa.

Jeff Mittie and the seventh-ranked Kansas State Wildcats will be without their All-American center Ayoka Lee on Saturday who dealing with a lingering ankle injury.

Lee missed one full month of the season due to an ankle injury suffered on January 6th, and while reinjuring her ankle is a major area of concern, Lee’s absence is stemming from a sprained ankle on her opposite foot.

Lee, a 6-foot-6 senior from Byron Minnesota, was having another All-American caliber season in 2023-24 prior to her injury by averaging 19.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game on 67.7% shooting from the field. After her ankle injury required surgery, Lee was sidelined from January 13th to February 14th.

The Minnesota native eventually made her return to the court against Iowa State and put up a 20-point, six-rebound, and seven block performance in the double overtime loss. While facing off against one of the young stars in the Big 12 Conference, Iowa State’s Audi Crooks, Lee rolled her opposite ankle and now is being treated day-to-day.

While the loss of Ayoka Lee is a big one for Kansas State, working without their star player active is nothing new for Jeff Mittie’s group. Over the seven-game stretch without Lee, the Wildcats totaled a record of 5-2.

The Wildcats will take the court without Lee in the lineup on Saturday, February 16th against the UCF Knights at home in Manhattan looking to shake off their loss against Iowa State.
