TCU Horned Frogs

Look: Jameer Nelson Jr. Hits Three to Beat Kansas State

NCAA Basketball: Texas Christian at Baylor

Senior guard Jameer Nelson Jr. was a superhero for TCU on Saturday cashing in a game-winning three when it mattered most to steal a win on the road.

The Horned Frogs led for the majority of the second half but thanks to two quick free throws from Cam Carter, Kansas State was able to tie the game up at 72-72. With a little over 15 seconds remaining, Jameer Nelson answered the call.

Nelson, a career 30% three-point shooter, made one of the biggest shots of his career to take down Jerome Tang and the Kansas State Wildcats 75-72. With the late dagger, Nelson finished his day off nearing a double-double with nine points and seven assists.

With the win, TCU climbs to 7-5 in conference play and now trails the league-leading Iowa State Cyclones and Houston Cougars by just two games. Coming into the matchup, TCU was listed as a 10-seed in the latest bracketology update from ESPN’s Joe Lunardi. While the Wildcats were not listed as members of the tournament field, Kansas State’s Net ranking of 77 paired with home court advantage in the Big 12, could give the Horned Frogs a leg up on teams looking to advance to March Madness.

Nelson and the Horned Frogs will now have a quick turnaround into Tuesday’s matchup against the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Lubbock. The matchup between the in-state rivals tips off on Tuesday, February 20th at 8:00 PM CT.
