Josh Eilert Pleads to West Virginia Fans: ‘Don’t Give Up On Us’
West Virginia head coach Josh Eilert apologized for the Mountaineers’ poor showing against No. 12 Baylor following their 94-81 home loss.
Eilert thanked fans for coming out before concluding his thoughts with a short and sweet plea, “Please don’t give up on us.”
With the loss to Baylor, the losing streak reached four straight, with the team’s last win dating back to January 31st when West Virginia narrowly defeated Cincinnati. Eilert’s team now sits in last place in the Big 12 Conference with an overall record of 8-17 and a conference record of 3-9.
While the slump for the Mountaineer faithful has been a tough adjustment, West Virginia had an uphill climb from the start of the offseason following the program’s dismissal of longtime head coach Bob Huggins.
Despite recording wins over the likes of Texas (33 NET), No. 6 Kansas (16 NET), and Cincinnati (35 NET) in conference play, West Virginia checks in with a NET ranking of 156th, the lowest in the Big 12 Conference by 30 places.
Eilert and the Mountaineers take the court next in Morgantown on Tuesday, February 20th, against Johnny Dawkins and the UCF Knights in hopes of putting an end to the losing streak.
