West Virginia Adds Second Northwestern DB Transfer in Two Days

NCAA Football: Oklahoma State at West Virginia

Neal Brown and the West Virginia Mountaineers found another late addition through the transfer portal on Tuesday afternoon with former Northwestern defensive back Garnett Hollis Jr.

Hollis Jr. will head to Morgantown to team up with his former Northwestern teammate, Jaheem Joseph, who decided to transfer to West Virginia one day before Hollis Jr.

Hollis Jr. put together a solid campaign in his junior season, recording 49 total tackles, one interception, one fumble recovery, and three pass breakups. The Tennessee native finished his time in Evanston with 79 tackles, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and six passes defended.

Coming out of Battle Ground Academy High School in the Class of 2020, Hollis jr. was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and checked in as the nation’s 633rd-ranked player. He also was listed as the 46th-ranked defensive back in his class and the 16th-ranked player in the state of Tennessee.

Hollis jr. became the Mountaineer’s ninth addition this offseason, joining the likes of Jacksonville State’s Xavier Bausley, Troy’s T.J. Jackson, Ohio State’s Reid Carrico, Oklahoma State’s Jayden Bray, and more.

Hollis Jr. and the rest of the new faces in Morgantown will take the field for the first time as Mountaineers on Saturday, August 31st, against the Penn State Nittany Lions.
