We saw BetOnline release odds for the 2024 College Football Playoff earlier this week, with Kansas State leading the way for the Big 12 with 1/2 (-200), or 67% odds of making the 12-team field.

More access to the playoff is great for teams that have had the chance of making the field, but for the regulars in the party, it doesn’t really change all that much.

For a team like Oklahoma, a former regular attendee of the CFP, it’s a chance to get back to the spotlight after going through more valleys than hills since the program changed leadership.

However, the Sooners are entering the 2024 season with quite a task ahead of them. The SEC did Oklahoma no favors with their inaugural schedule, throwing them a conference slate that includes Tennessee, Auburn, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Missouri, Alabama, LSU, and of course, Texas.

That’s not exactly the kind of schedule that a team would handpick for themselves, and its showing up in Vegas, too. The Sooners’ win total in 2024 is currently set around 7.5 games, which is incredibly low when compared to previous years, but given the schedule it’s totally feasible.

But how about this betting fact for the week?

There are seven Big 12 teams with better odds of making the College Football Playoff in 2024 than Oklahoma. SEVEN.

OU currenly sits at 10/1 (+1000) of making the playoff, but this list of Big 12 contenders are getting better numbers out the gate, per BetOnline.

  • Kansas State: 1/2 (-200)
  • Utah: 10/11 (-110)
  • Arizona 2/1 (+200)
  • Kansas 5/2 (+250)
  • Texas Tech: 11/2 (+550)
  • Iowa State: 7/1 (+700)
  • Oklahoma State 8/1 (+800)

If you would have read the sentence, “Kansas’ odds are four times greater to make the Playoff than Oklahoma’s this year,” three years ago, you’d have blocked the sender on Twitter. Now, it’s a reality.

The Sooners brutal schedule combined with a wide open Big 12 has created just that scenario now though, and 2024 looks like loads of fun for the conference that no longer has to deal with Oklahoma.
