Kansas Hires Pair of Coaches as Defensive Analysts
Lance Leipold and the Kansas Jayhawks made a pair of hires on Friday morning with the team bringing in Mike Dawson and Brandon Shelby as defensive analysts.
The Jayhawks coaching staff has seen a lot of retooling this offseason after losing coaches like Andy Kotelnicki, Jordan Peterson, and Scott Fuchs, which prompted Leipold to bring in some new faces to the program.
Dawson, a former defensive line and linebackers coach at Nebraska, has spent time with multiple programs over his 25-year career including stints with UCF, Ohio State, the New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, and more. He started his coaching career off at UMass-Lowell as Assistant Defensive Line Coach, and worked his way up to a position with the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Shelby, a former defensive back for the Oklahoma Sooners, spent time with Oklahoma, Arizona, San Diego, Portland State, and University of Louisiana-Monroe before a 13-year stop with the Indiana Hoosiers. Shelby became the fourth-longest tenured assistant coach in IU history, the longest-tenured cornerbacks coach in the Big Ten East, and the second-longest in the conference overall.
Despite some of the recent changes on the Jayhawks coaching staff, Lance Leipold continues to find and make solid hires among experienced coaches at the Power Five level.
