The last couple of weeks have provided plenty of controversy and discussion about which conference plays the best basketball in the country.

The ACC — which many folks consider to be the “blue blood” conference with teams like Duke, North Carolina, Syracuse, Louisville, and Virginia — has been chirping a lot lately, claiming Big 12 is rigging the NET rankings by playing weak nonconference opponents and blowing their doors off to improve their efficiencies.

As our own Matthew Postins pointed out in a story earlier this week, the Big 12 isn’t doing anything that other conferences, including the ACC, aren’t doing themselves. The fact of the matter is that the Big 12 is just better than the other leagues right now, and that’s a tough pill to swallow.

But don’t just take my word for it. Just look at the metrics and how the leagues stack up against one another. According to the Massey Composite site, which factors in 54 different computer rankings systems to create its composite ranking, the Big 12 is the runaway winner for best league in the country.

In fact, it’s not close. All 54 computer rankings have the Big 12 ranked No. 1, while the ACC is ranked No. 5 behind the Big Ten, SEC, and Big East.

Nearly every Big 12 matchup this season has had a postseason feel to it, and once March Madness gets underway, there’s not going to be a conference that has better prepared its teams to make a run to the Final Four.

The Big 12 will wrap its regular season action this weekend before the Big 12 Tournament gets underway in Kansas City next weekend at the T-Mobile Center.
