BYU vs. Iowa State Basketball Game Draws Highest Viewership for ESPN2
Big 12 basketball commands attention and it shows up in the stands, but also in broadcast ratings.
One of the biggest tellers for success is viewership, or just how many people tuned in to catch a game. This week’s game between BYU and Iowa State on ESPN2 didn’t tip until 9:00 p.m. ET, but it didn’t keep folks from staying up to catch the action.
According to Jeff Fuller of ESPN 960 Radio, it was by far the highest-rated Big 12 game on ESPN2 this season, drawing 562,000 viewers despite the late start.
Last week, Alabama and Ole Miss tipped off in the same window on Wednesday night and drew 542,000. Ole Miss vs. Mississippi State drew 271,000 in the same window two weeks prior. In short, there was a very good turnout to see the Cyclones 68-63 win over the Cougars.
This isn’t the first time that the people have really tuned in to see some “Hilton Magic” this season, as three of the top six rated games on ESPN2 have been Iowa State home games.
The sixth-ranked Cyclones (24-6, 13-4) will close out their regular season on Saturday at Kansas State (17-13, 7-10), while No. 20 BYU (21-9, 9-8) will finish up their season hosting Oklahoma State.
