Big 12 Goes Into Final Saturday With No Bubble Teams
While things can quickly change in March, the Big 12 Conference appears to be set with roughly nine teams in the NCAA Tournament field.
With Kansas State and Cincinnati falling off the bubble in Joe Lunardi’s latest bracketology update, the league will enter the final week before Selection Sunday with zero teams on the bubble.
Jamie Dixon and the TCU Horned Frogs are comfortably in the tournament in the update but have a crucial matchup against UCF as they are listed in the “Last Four Byes” category.
Cincinnati knocked off Kansas State on March 2nd, which made the Wildcats’ path to the NCAA Tournament significantly more difficult. Kansas State is currently in 10th place in the Big 12 Conference with an overall record of 17-13, 7-10 in conference play. K-State’s resume has impressive wins, including games against No. 20 BYU, No. 14 Kansas, and No. 11 Baylor.
Cincinnati (17-13, 6-11) currently trails Kansas State by one game in the Big 12 standings as Wes Miller’s squad checks in at 11th place in the league. The Bearcats recorded three Quad 1 wins this season, with wins over No. 23 Texas Tech, TCU, and No. 25 BYU, and will close out the season against West Virginia.
While both teams would need to cap off their season with wins and go on a deep run in the Big 12 Tournament to at least earn a chance at being considered for the NCAA Tournament, crazier things have happened. The Selection Sunday show is on Sunday, March 17th, with the tournament field announced at 5:00 p.m. CT.
