Hunter Dickinson, Kevin McCullar Both ‘Questionable’ Heading into Big 12 Tournament Week
For the last several weeks, Kansas has been monitoring the health of Kevin McCullar, with Bill Self doing everything in his power to make sure his veteran was set for a deep run in March. But then came Saturday, when Hunter Dickinson suffered a dislocated shoulder, and McCullar missed the second half, in a 30-point loss to the Houston Cougars on the final day of the regular season.
After the game, Bill Self said, “[Dickinson] dislocated his shoulder, popped back in, but he’ll have an MRI to see the diagnosis and try to get a game plan moving forward for him. Kevin, he hasn’t done anything since [the Kansas State game on Tuesday]. Today, he felt better and thought he’d try (to play). I wish we wouldn’t have played [McCullar].”
“It’s a pretty big level of concern when your two best players are probably questionable moving forward.”
As for whether or not either or both guys will play in Kansas City at the Big 12 Tournament, Self said it’s “too soon” to know.
With Saturday’s game already out of reach, Dickinson injured his right shoulder while battling for a rebound at the 11:08 mark of the second half. He immediately ran back to the locker room clutching the shoulder.
McCullar aggravated his knee injury in the win over Kansas State. He has missed six games over the past six weeks because of a bone bruise in the knee.
The 2024 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament will tip off at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City on March 12 and conclude on March 16.
Kansas is the No. 6 seed in the Big 12 Tournament and will play on Wednesday against the winner of the No. 11 Cincinnati vs. No. 14 West Virginia game.
