Porter Moser on DePaul Rumors: ‘There is Zero Truth’
Oklahoma basketball coach Porter Moser has denied rumors he’s interested in the opening at DePaul.
Moser took to X on Monday night, writing, “Heard all the rumors this afternoon and want to say emphatically There is zero truth,” to the multiple reports suggesting he’s interesting in going back to the Chicago area and coaching in the Big East.
DePaul fired head coach Tony Stubblefield on January 22nd and has been searching for his replacement ever since.
Most recently, Moser was linked to the job in a list from ESPN’s Jeff Borzello, who shared that Moser has some interest in the job opening.
“The most intriguing speculation centers around Oklahoma’s Porter Moser, a native of the Chicago suburbs who spent a decade at Loyola Chicago,” Borzello wrote. “Talks aren’t as advanced as social media would lead you to believe, but there’s interest, and DePaul has expressed it would be willing to pay Moser’s buyout, around $6.5 million, sources told ESPN.”
Moser famously took Loyola Chicago to a Final 4 and a Sweet 16 during his decade-long tenure in the Windy City. During his three seasons in Norman, he’s struggled, but is in the midst of his best season, as OU just finished 20-11 and 8-10 in Big 12 play, and is expected to hear its name called on Selection Sunday for the first time during Moser’s tenure.
Despite the ongoing rumors, Moser and the Sooners will take the court next on Wednesday, March 13th, against the TCU Horned Frogs in the second round of the Big 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
