Chiefs to Sign Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown to One-Year Deal
The Kansas City Chiefs are set to sign Marquise “Hollywood” Brown to a one-year deal worth up to $11 million dollars, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Thursday night.
The former standout from Oklahoma was drafted by the Ravens with the 25th overall pick in the 2019 Draft as Baltimore hoped to find its answer at WR1. However, injuries have hampered his career, keeping him from playing a full season since 2020.
Brown was traded to the Cardinals in 2022 and was hopeful to sign a long-term deal with Arizona ahead of the 2023 season. That wasn’t the case, however, leading the speedy wideout to hit the free agent market.
Brown announced the news on Instagram Thursday night, saying “Blessed Beyond Measures…Excited To Be a Part of Chiefs Kingdom” alongside a picture of him in a Chiefs uniform.
Now, playing under the best offensive mind in the NFL (Andy Reid) and the top quarterback in the game, Brown hopes to prove himself worthy of a long-term contract with Kansas City.
The Chiefs have been looking for a difference-maker at wide receiver for a few years now, and names like Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Kadarius Toney, Skyy Moore, and Mecole Hardman did not fit the bill.
Rookie Rashee Rice out of Houston appeared to step into that role during the Chiefs Super Bowl run, recording 79 catches, 938 yards, and seven touchdowns. Still, outside of him and Travis Kelce, KC was pretty inconsistent at wideout.
Brown, 27, still has plenty left in the tank and will hope to have a career year in 2024, which would help him stick around in the land of champions. His lone 1,000-yard season came in 2021 when he caught 91 passes for 1,008 yards for the Ravens.
