BYU Cougars Receive No. 6 Seed in 2024 NCAA Tournament
The 2024 NCAA Tournament selection committee has given the BYU Cougars the No. 6 seed in the East Regional.
BYU will take on No. 11 Duquesne on Thursday in Omaha, Neb. Duquesne is in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1977 after winning the Patriot League Tournament. The winner will play either No. 3 seed Illinois or No. 13 seed Morehead State.
BYU enters March Madness after completing its first regular season as a member of the Big 12 Conference. The Cougars finished fifth in the league after being picked to finish 13th in the league in the preseason poll.
BYU finished the regular season with a 23-10 record, including a 10-8 record in Big 12 play.
BYU missed both the NCAA Tournament and the NIT Tournament in 2023, with their last trip to the NCAA Tournament coming as a 6-seed in 2021.
The Cougars are led by senior guard Jaxson Robinson, who averaged 13.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game this season. He was named the Big 12’s Sixth Man of the Year last week and recognized as an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention.
BYU has made 30 NCAA Tournament appearances while reaching three Elite Eights, plus seven Sweet 16 appearances. The Cougars have an overall record of 15-33 in March Madness.
