Look: Iowa State’s Keshon Gilbert Responds to Social Media Critic

NCAA Basketball: Iowa State at Cincinnati

After a dominant run in the 2024 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament, Iowa State guard Keshon Gilbert responded to some social media criticism from one UNLV fan who hated Gilbert’s decision to transfer.

Gilbert shared multiple screenshots from a UNLV fan and said, “lol, I usually don’t do dis, but I had to repost dis one. But thank you, Ms. Rebel. I needed that motivation!”

Gilbert, a 6-foot-4 guard from St. Louis, Missouri, committed to join the UNLV Rebels coming out of high school in the Class of 2021. After spending two seasons with the Rebels, Gilbert elected to enter his name into the transfer portal and went on to find a new home in Ames.

The individual that Gilbert responded to on social media, UNLVRebelGirl, had lots to say about Gilbert when he announced his decision to transfer, including things like Gilbert’s lack of focus, rejection of any and all coaching, and that Gilbert was “Bad against real competition.”

Gilbert silenced his UNLV haters and proved his ability to lead a team to a top seed in the NCAA Tournament while shining in the best basketball conference in America against some of the nation’s best competitors. Gilbert averaged 13.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game in his junior season and capped it off by being listed as an All-Big 12 Second Team member.

While Gilbert and the Cyclones still have some significant matchups ahead of them in the NCAA Tournament, the Missouri native has more than proved his doubters wrong and his supporters right.
