Look: Houston’s Chance at Being the Last ‘One Dance-ing’ is Shot
After winning the Big 12 regular season title and finishing as the runner-up to Iowa State in a grueling Big 12 Tournament last week, the Houston Cougars earned the No. 1 seed in the South Region of the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
Houston (30-4) is undoubtedly one of the favorites to play their way to a national championship in this year’s field, but it appears their run might be doomed from the start.
Drake, a legend in the hip-hop world and a mega-sports fan, is riding with the Cougars as his pick to win the title in 2024. In recent years, Drake has “cursed” several teams after publically picking them to win championships.
A native of Houston, Drake showed up to the Cougars’ Selection Party and had a custom UH jersey in-hand.
Over the years, Drake has doomed several teams to fall short of their championship goals, including the 2016 Golden State Warriors, the 2019 Alabama Crimson Tide, and, of course, the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team since 2012.
His luck has been better as of late, as Drake has correctly picked the Rams to win Super Bowl LVI, the Nuggets to win the 2023 NBA Finals, and the Chiefs to win Super Bowl LVIII. Still, it feels like more of a curse for UH, considering how distinguished the history of Drake’s curse was prior to the Toronto Raptors turning things around in 2019.
On second thought, perhaps this is some reverse psychology from Drake, who has rolled with UK for all these years.
Afterall, the Wildcats are the No. 3 seed in the South Region and would have to get past Houston to advance to the Final Four…
