Jamal Shead and Hunter Dickinson Earn All-American Honors
Two players from the Big 12 Conference earned All-American honors on Monday, with Houston‘s Jamal Shead and Kansas‘ Hunter Dickinson listed.
Shead took home First Team All-American honors, while Dickinson was listed as a member of the All-American Second Team.
Shead was one of five players listed on the First-Team, joining Purdue’s Zach Edey, Tennessee’s Dalton Knecht, North Carolina’s RJ Davis, and UConn’s Tristen Newton.
The AP spoke on each selection in order, starting with Jamal Shead, who they raved about, saying, “Shead, a 6-1 senior, has been the floor leader for a Houston team that won the Big 12 regular-season crown in its first year in the rugged league. The honor for Shead, the AP player of the year in the Big 12, follows the Cougars having a first-team selection last year with guard Marcus Sasser.”
Following Shead on the list was Kansas center Hunter Dickinson, who represented the All-American Second Team alongside Marquette’s Tyler Kolek, Alabama’s Mark Sears, Dayton’s DaRon Holmes II, and Duke’s Kyle Filipowski.
While Shead and Dickinson were the only two members of the Big 12 Conference listed as representatives on the All-American teams, they were not the only two league members mentioned. Dickinson’s teammate, Kevin McCullar, was mentioned in the article as an Honorable Mention as one of the leading vote-getters who did not make an All-America team.
Shead, Dickinson, and McCullar will have an opportunity to prove their supporters right and their doubters wrong when they take the court in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament on Thursday, March 21st, and Friday, March 22nd.
