Texas Forward Enters Transfer Portal During NCAA Tournament Run
While Rodney Terry and the Texas Longhorns advanced to the Round of 32 on Thursday night in the 2024 NCAA Tournament, one member of the Longhorns decided it was time to enter the transfer portal.
According to a report from Inside Texas’ Joe Cook, Texas forward Alex Anamekwe is officially entering the transfer portal.
Anamekwe saw action in a total of 18 games during his career in Austin after committing to join the Longhorns in the Class of 2022. The 6-foot-6 forward chose Texas over offers from eight different programs, including Texas Tech, Alabama, SMU, North Texas, and more. During his two-year career, the Texas native scored a total of 20 points.
Coming out of blank high school in the Class of 2022, Anamekwe was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and was listed as the nation’s 208th-ranked prospect. He also checked in as the 41st-ranked power forward in his class and the 15th-ranked player in the state of Texas.
While the loss of Anamekwe may not be much of a loss in terms of playing time, the decision to enter the portal during an NCAA Tournament run is a bit of a curious one. Texas takes the court next on Saturday, March 23rd, at 7:00 p.m. CT against the 2-seed Tennessee Volunteers.
