West Virginia, Darian DeVries Agree to Five-Year, $15M Contract
Just a few days after the report that West Virginia would hire Darian DeVries as their next head coach, details of his contract have been released.
According to Keenan Cummings of Rivals’ WVSports.com, DeVries is set to earn $2.8 million in his first season, with his salary increasing by $100,000 increments through the remainder of his five-year deal. Additionally, DeVries will be eligible to earn more based on incentives for program success on and off the court. DeVries signed his contract with West Virginia on March 24.
Interestingly, an extension clause will be activated if DeVries and the Mountaineers finish inside the top six of the conference standings in either of his first two seasons. This would automatically extend his contract for one more season through April 30, 2030.
DeVries served as the head coach at Drake this past season, leading the Bulldogs to an NCAA Tournament bid. During his six-year stint with Drake, DeVries never won less than 20 games and won one MVC regular season title and two tournament titles.
DeVries replaces Josh Eilert, who was the interim head coach this season after Bob Huggins resigned as head coach last summer.
With DeVries officially with the Mountaineers, just the Oklahoma State job remains vacant among Big 12 teams, as the Cowboys are still searching for Mike Boynton’s replacement.
