Quinn Ewers Expects ‘Big Jump’ From Arch Manning in Year 2
While Texas quarterback Arch Manning is entering the 2024 college football season as the Longhorns’ backup QB, Quinn Ewers took the time to highlight Manning as a player to watch in Year Two.
Ewers spoke on Manning’s development, saying, “Year 2, you always see a big jump with quarterbacks in this offense.”
“Year 2, you always see a big jump with quarterbacks in this offense,” Ewers said. “You’re just so much more comfortable and your confidence just goes through the roof.”
Manning generated a lot of buzz this offseason after opting out of the upcoming video game release EA Sports College Football 25. The sophomore quarterback clarified his stance with On3’s Grant Stubbs, mentioning his intentions to wait until he’s “the guy” at Texas.
With Quinn Ewers set to take the field as the Longhorns starter in 2024, fans will likely have to wait another season to see Arch get meaningful minutes. However, Ewers missed multiple games in 2023 due to a shoulder injury, which prompted the Longhorns to insert Maalik Murphy into the starting lineup. Murphy has since transferred to Duke. Should Ewers miss any action this fall, Manning’s path to take some snaps becomes much more likely.
Manning saw the field in Texas’ 57-7 blowout win over Texas Tech and finished his day going 2-5 for 30 yards. He also showed some flashes of athleticism, scrambling for seven yards in the contest.
Fans of the Longhorns will see the star-studded quarterback room in action on Saturday, August 31st, when Texas kicks off its first season of SEC football against the Colorado State Rams.
