Look: Baylor Women’s Basketball Catches Stray Shot in Viral Kim Mulkey Article
While LSU head coach Kim Mulkey has been a massive topic in the world of Women’s College Basketball for years now, the Washington Post released an article on Mulkey’s coaching style which added a some gas to an ongoing fire.
Mulkey’s actions were discussed at length in the article, but one comment on that of her former employer, Baylor, is going viral for some laughable oversights by the Washington Post’s Kent Babb.
Despite being one of 16 remaining teams with a shot at an NCAA title in 2023-24, Babb mentioned in the article that Baylor is nowhere near what it used to be and has regressed beyond repair. “Baylor is no longer among the sport’s upper tier, another structure abandoned and left to wither,” Babb wrote.
While the definition of the word “wither” is to become dry, shriveled, and fall into decay, Baylor’s women’s basketball team holds an overall record of 74-27 (.733) since Mulkey left, which includes an impressive conference record of 37-17 (.685).
Baylor head coach Nicki Collen has done a phenomenal job since taking over for Mulkey in 2021, leading the Lady Bears to three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances and a Big 12 regular season title in her first year at the helm.
Supposedly, a program being left to wither translates to having an overall win percentage above .700 with multiple years of postseason success. In that case, more and more programs around the country should hope to one day be “abandoned and left to wither.”
5-seed Baylor takes the court next on Saturday, March 30th, in the Sweet 16 against JuJu Watkins and USC at 4:30 p.m. CT.
