Former Texas RB Derrian Brown Returns to Football, Enters Transfer Portal

NCAA Football: Texas at Texas Tech

In an exciting turn of events, former Texas running back Derrian Brown, who stepped away from football in 2021 due to medical reasons, is planning a return to the field.

Brown last suited up for Texas in 2021, and after three seasons removed from the game, the Georgia native is jumping back on the field and into the transfer portal.

Brown stepped away from the game after suffering a severe stroke that left the Georgia native learning how to walk and talk again, according to a report from Burnt Orange Nation’s Wescott Eberts. Brown was moved to a medical scholarship at Texas and received clearance for modified activities in December of 2019. Unfortunately for Brown, he would not appear in a game as a Longhorn.

Coming out of Buford High School in the Class of 2019, Brown was listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 223rd-ranked prospect. He also checked in as the 12th-ranked player at his position and the 23rd-ranked player in the state of Georgia.

Brown will now have a chance to see what opportunities await him in the transfer portal as the Georgi running back attempts to write an incredible college football comeback story.
