Jayda Coleman, Lexi Kilfoyl Secure National, Big 12 Softball Honors for Week 8

After picking up big wins over ranked opponents in Week 8, Oklahoma centerfielder Jayda Coleman (Player) and Oklahoma State’s Lexi Kilfoyl (Pitcher) picked up Big 12 weekly honors for their outstanding performances.

Coleman was pivotal in Oklahoma’s three-game sweep of Kansas, while Kilfoyl’s arm was a major part of why OSU held Texas’ offense to just two runs on the weekend, resulting in a 2-to-1 series win for the Cowgirls.

Coleman was named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA D1 Player of the Week, the fifth time this season a league player has earned the honor while Kilfoyl was announced as the Wilson/NFCA D1 Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season.

Here’s the announcement for each player and what the Big 12 Press Release had to say about each of the players’ standout weekends.

Big 12 Player of the Week: Jayda Coleman, CF, Oklahoma

Coleman reached base in 13-of-14 plate appearances in the Sooners’ three-game sweep of then No. 24 Kansas. The senior drew seven walks, scored eight runs, and hit three home runs during the series. Her weekend batting average (.857) was the highest in the Big 12, while her on-base percentage (.929) and slugging percentage (2.143) were the top marks in the country during the week. This is the 2023 Big 12 Player of the Year’s fourth weekly Conference accolade and her first this season. Oklahoma is the only school to win Player of the Week four consecutive times in one season and has now done so in back-to-back years.

Big 12 Pitcher of the Week: Lexi Kilfoyl, RHP, Oklahoma State

Kilfoyl pitched two complete game shutouts against then No. 2/2 Texas to help OSU take the top 10 series over UT. The two shutouts are the only times this season that the Longhorns have been held scoreless. Kilfoyl did not allow an extra-base hit while striking out 11 and allowed just two walks in her 14.0 innings of work. This is the graduate student’s fourth weekly Conference honor and her second in 2024. Kilfoyl is now the first pitcher in OSU history to sweep the Big 12 and NFCA Pitcher of the Week awards twice in one season.
