Mike Boynton to Join Dusty May’s Staff at Michigan: Report
Mike Boynton was fired by Oklahoma State just last month, but the former Cowboys coach has reportedly already landed on his feet.
As first reported by Matt Norlander at CBS Sports, Boynton is expected to land at Michigan as as assistant to Dusty May, who was just hired to try and turn around the Wolverines.
Boynton was fired after seven years as the Cowboys head coach.
The Cowboys ended the 2023-24 season with a 12-20 record, the program’s worst finish since the second year of Boynton’s tenure in Stillwater. However, it was the sixth time in seven seasons under Boynton that the Pokes missed the NCAA Tournament.
Boynton is 119-109 as a head coach, with OSU being his first head job after assistant gigs with South Carolina, Stephen F. Austin and then in Stillwater, where he replaced Brad Underwood, who took the Illinois job after one season with the Cowboys.
Dusty May was one of the hottest names of the coaching cycle after he led FAU to a Final 4 in 2023. This year, his Owls got knocked out in the first round of the NCAA Tournament by Northwestern. May will try and turn around a program that went 8-24, and resulted in Juwan Howard losing his job after five seasons.
