Deion Sanders Criticizes Colorado Football’s Academic Standing While Exposing NFL Draft Grades

Oct 7, 2023; Tempe, Arizona, USA; Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders walks the sidelines as his team takes on the ASU Sun Devils at Mountain America Stadium.

The academic focus of collegiate athletes around the nation has been a growing topic of discussion among coaches.

On Saturday, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders made it clear that he and the rest of the Colorado staff would not tolerate lapses in the classroom.

In a recent video from Well Off Media, Sanders read an email from a Colorado professor to his football team describing his disappointment in the way certain athletes had been handling themselves in class.

The message read, “This semester has been extremely challenging for me as a professor. I have never felt so disrespected in my ten years of teaching. Students do not follow even minimally and it slows down my class so much. They make it clear that they don’t want to be here and have very little personal responsibility.”

Sanders responded by asking a member of his coaching staff to discuss the NFL Draft stock of each player mentioned in the email and opened the players’ eyes one by one.

“You gonna get something out of this,” Sanders said. “You gonna be a man or you’re going to be a great football player. Since you choose not to be a great football player, we gotta make you a man.”

Sanders wrapped up his thoughts by voicing his frustration as the video concluded, saying, “I’m a little frustrated. I’m a little angry right now because we in this new collective area in a NIL state of mind. We got youngsters that are all in on one side of the game. 90% or 95% of your roster ain’t going pro. So, coaches, we got to emphasize education, we got to emphasize life, we got to emphasize the next step, the next elevation if it doesn’t work in the game.”

Sanders and the Buffaloes will take the first as members of the Big 12 on Saturday, August 31st, against the North Dakota State Bison.
