Big 12 Baseball Sunday Six-Pack: Oklahoma State Wins Bedlam While Cincinnati Sweeps TCU
Is there anything better than cold beer and baseball? It’s a combination that is hard to beat during the season. No matter what kind of beer you drink (or how many), let’s take a look at some of the best action on the Big 12 baseball diamond from Sunday with a nice six pack.
Best Game
Oklahoma at Oklahoma State
Of course, Bedlam had to end in a Sunday rubber match. This series has been wild all weekend long and it was only fitting for it to come down to the final game of the series. We saw a pair of lead changes in the first five innings, and it only got better.
In the seventh inning, Oklahoma’s Michael Snyder extended the lead with his RBI double to make it a 5-3 game. At this point, I thought Oklahoma was going to take control of the game.
However, I was wrong because the Cowboys came roaring back latter in that same inning. Avery Ortiz made it a one score game with his RBI single to get things started.
Then the ballpark exploded when Donovan LaSalle hit a three-run bomb to give the Cowboys the lead.
Things became chaotic for the Sooners after that because they walked in a pair of runs and let the game slip away from them. Oklahoma State went on to win 9-5 to take the final Bedlam series. While it is possible that these two teams can meet again at some point this season, it is just a shame that this could be the last Bedlam we saw for years to come.
Best Win
UCF over Kansas State
There was plenty on the line in Orlando on Sunday afternoon as UCF and Kansas State battled it out for the series. The Knights were dominant in this one in large part because of starting pitcher Dominic Castellano who pitched an absolute gem against a great Kansas State lineup.
This was a huge win for UCF as they continue to be in the Big 12 title race. While their 8-7 record may not seem like much, this team now has series wins over Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech. They have played a tough schedule so far and now they will get a chance to rack up some more wins because the schedule will lighten up after this weekend.
Worst Loss
TCU
There is no easy way to say this. TCU is in serious jeopardy of making the postseason. That is wild to say considering they were a preseason top ten team and the clear-cut favorites to win the Big 12. Now they sit at 5-10 in Big 12 play after getting swept and run ruled by Cincinnati on Sunday. This team is broken and looks like a shell of themselves.
Sunday MVP
Cincinnati 3B Kerrington Cross
Kerrington hit not one but two home runs in Cincinnati’s run rule win over TCU on Sunday including this walk off.
Pitcher of the Day
Cincinnati RHP Nathan Taylor
Nathan pitched all seven innings in Cincinnati’s big sweep against TCU and he allowed just two runs while striking out nine batters.
Best Home Run
Oklahoma State DH Donovan LaSalle
Forget about being the best home run of the day, this may be the best home run I have seen so far this season.
