Tommy Lloyd and the Arizona Wildcats are losing a key piece from their 2023-24 squad, with senior center Oumar Ballo entering the transfer portal.

Ballo started his career at Gonzaga but transferred as a sophomore in 2021-22. He remained in Arizona for three seasons before electing to enter the portal for his final year of eligibility.

Ballo will be one of the biggest names to hit the portal this offseason after posting some incredible numbers during the 2023-24 season. The senior center averaged a double-double, with 12.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game in his fourth season of college basketball.

“I would like to thank my coaches, teammates, friends, and family for their ongoing support in making me the best player and person I can be,” Ballo said in his statement. “I especially would like to thank Coach Lloyd for the impact he has had on my life. Arizona is in great hands. I am beyond grateful for my time at Arizona and for Wildcat Nation and the community of Tucson for embracing me into this family. Tucson and all the amazing people here will always hold a special place in my heart. With that being said, I have decided to enter the transfer portal as a graduate student for my final year of eligibility.”

Coming out of high school in the Class of 2019, Ballo was listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 66th-ranked player. He also checked in as the 16th-ranked player at his position and the top-ranked player in Mali.

With a key member of his team electing to transfer in search of greener pastures, Tommy Lloyd will have a new spot to fill this offseason. Still, with this offseason shaping up to include one of the busiest portal cycles in college basketball history, Lloyd should have some options available for replacement.
