Watch: Texas Tech Football Celebrates Solar Eclipse by Singing Total Eclipse of the Heart

NCAA Football: Texas Tech at Kansas

Mentioning Joey McGuire’s signing talents during a solar eclipse was not on my bingo card for 2024, but here we are.

To celebrate the solar eclipse taking place on Monday, April 8th, the Texas Tech Red Raiders‘ social media team put together an incredible video of members of the football team splicing together the lyrics to Bonnie Tyler’s Total Eclipse of the Heart.

The solar eclipse was viewed around the world at different times throughout the day, but unfortunately for the Red Raiders, the majority of the Texas sky was covered by clouds. The last time that eclipse-watchers were able to see the spectacle took place six years ago in 2017. Unfortunately, for those who may have missed it, according to an article from CBS News, NASA predicted that the next eclipse is set to cross the skyline on August 23rd, 2044.

While the general public is focused on the solar eclipse, Joey McGuire’s squad is focused on competing for a Big 12 title in 2024. The Red Raiders ended the 2023 season on a high note, winning four of their last five games, including the Independence Bowl against the Cal Bears.

Texas Tech will try its hand at jumping into title contention in 2024 with a solid roster featuring returners like Tahj Brooks, Behren Morton, and more. The Red Raiders kick off the 2024 season on Saturday, August 31st, against Abilene Christian.
