West Virginia F Josiah Harris Enters Transfer Portal

NCAA Basketball: Morehead State at West Virginia

Darian DeVries and the West Virginia Mountaineers are losing a key piece from their 2023-24 squad, with sophomore forward Josiah Harris entering the transfer portal.

Harris saw the court in 2022-23 under Bob Huggins and 2023-24 under Josh Eilert. On Monday, the Ohio native took to social media to release a detailed statement outlining his decision to enter the portal.

While Harris wasn’t much of a stat sheet guy, he gave the Mountaineers some nice moments in 2023-24. The sophomore forward started 13 games for Josh Eilert and came off the bench in the other 19 contests. He finished the year off averaging 5.0 points and 4.7 rebounds on 37.9% shooting from the field.

“I must depart from my West Virginia family to grow in other ways,” Harris said in a statement. “I will forever be grateful to all the coaches I’ve had. To the legendary Coach Huggins and his staff, who laid the foundation of my collegiate basketball career, to Coach Eilert and his staff, who taught me that even when all the odds are stacked against you, keep fighting with all your heart. To all the fans who inspired me with their unwavering spirit and support. I would like to thank you all from the bottom of my heart.”

Coming out of high school in the Class of 2022, Harris was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 161st-ranked player. He also checked in as the 27th-ranked player at his position and the fourth-ranked player in the state of Ohio.

With one critical developmental piece electing to leave Morgantown in search of greener pastures, Darian DeVries will have to fill in some depth pieces this offseason. Still, with this offseason shaping up to include one of the busiest portal cycles in college basketball history, DeVries should have some options available for replacement.
