Andy Katz Says Kentucky Should Hire Scott Drew

NCAA Basketball: NIT Season Tip-Off Championship

With Kentucky coach John Calipari saying goodbye to Wildcats fans on social media, speculation regarding the vacancy in Lexington is at an all-time high.

One recent sports personality to chime in on the job opening was Turner Sports’ Andy Katz, who mentioned Scott Drew as the ideal candidate for the Kentucky job.

Katz recapped some initial thoughts about Calipari’s move to Arkansas, and in his final point, he listed Scott Drew as the best fit for the job.

“The best fit with AD Mitch Barnhart would be Baylor coach Scott Drew,” Katz said. They are good friends and share similar interests. Now, whether or not he is the choice or goes is another question. The Kentucky job is not for everyone. You must be someone who can handle the pressure, the interest level, and the demands of competing for a title.”

Thankfully, for those wondering if Scott Drew could handle the pressure of competing for a title, he’s won a National Championship within the last four years. Since taking over at Baylor in 2003-2004, Drew has transformed the program into a national powerhouse. During his two-decade tenure at Baylor, Drew holds an overall winning percentage of .646 (446-244).

With Drew the newest name mentioned in Kentucky’s coaching search, the offseason coaching carousel continues to spin, for better or worse.
