Houston Guard L.J. Cryer to Undergo Foot Surgery
Houston basketball fans have seen a lot of headlines about senior guard L.J. Cryer in the last 24 hours, and here comes one more.
The Texas native finished the 2023-24 season while dealing with a lingering foot injury that will require surgery. According to a report from the Houston Chronicle’s Joseph Duarte, Cryer will undergo surgery on Wednesday, April 10th.
While foot surgery can be an extensive process, Cryer should be back up to speed after roughly three months of recovery. Despite dealing with the foot injury in 2023-24, Cryer averaged 15.5 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game on 41.1% shooting from the field.
Prior to the news of his injury, Cryer took to social media to announce that he would be returning to Houston in the fall and using his final season of eligibility. The news of Cryer’s return is massive for Kelvin Sampson’s squad with All-American guard Jamal Shead expected to go to the NBA Draft. Cryer averaged 32.1 minutes per game for the Coogs in 2023-24, led his team in scoring, and led all guards in field goal percentage.
Houston will likely still look to add another skilled guard to their rotation through the transfer portal, but with L.J. Cryer returning from injury, the Cougars will have a great shot at following up on their success from Year One in the Big 12.
