REPORT: Kentucky Will Make Scott Drew ‘Say No’

NCAA Basketball: Villanova at Baylor

Baylor head basketball coach Scott Drew is the heavy favorite to become the next coach for the Kentucky Wildcats, and it looks as if they’ll inquire about his interest in the position.

According to Matt Jones, host of Kentucky Sports Radio for ESPN, the Wildcats are prepared to make Drew, among a couple of other big-name coaches, say “no” before they move on to their next candidates.

The other coaches at the top of Kentucky’s list are UConn head coach Danny Hurley and Chicago Bulls head coach Bill Donovan.

Just when it appeared that the 2024 coaching carousel was coming to a close, John Calipari reportedly decided to take the job at Arkansas. That, obviously, leaves one of the biggest brands in college basketball without a head coach.

The trickle-down effect that Calipari leaving UK could have is tremendous, and it probably won’t just stop with one coach.

Nate Oats was supposedly one of the top names on the board, but he’s reaffirmed his commitment to Alabama. Dan Hurley just won back-to-back national championships at UConn and isn’t likely to leave. If Drew does take the job, would the Bears reach out to Jerome Tang? Would they go after someone else?

The dominoes in the Big 12 aren’t done falling yet, and it might be a while before they stop.
