Sedona Prince Gets NCAA Waiver To Return To TCU Next Season

TCU's Sedona Prince.

TCU center Sedona Prince announced on Wednesday that she would return for one last season of college basketball with the Horned Frogs.

Prince made the announcement on social media.

In the announcement, Prince noted that she received a hardship waiver from the NCAA, which will allow her to play one more season. When she signed with TCU last year, the Horned Frogs’ press release made clear that Prince had one year of eligibility remaining.

This explains why Prince’s name wasn’t on the WNBA Draft declaration list, which was released last week. The WNBA Draft is next week. Iowa’s Caitlin Clark is widely expected to be the No. 1 overall pick.

The 6-foot-7 center from Liberty Hill, Texas, missed the balance of Big 12 Conference play after she broke her finger. She returned late in conference play, helped TCU win a game in the Big 12 Tournament and led them into the Women’s Basketball Invitational Tournament, where the Horned Frogs reached the second round.

Prince played 21 games, averaging 19.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 2.9 blocked shots per game. TCU went 21-12 (6-12 in Big 12) and forfeited two league games when it didn’t have enough players to field a team after a spate of injuries, including Prince’s.

TCU expects to have guard Madison Conner back after she averaged more than 20 points per game in spite of missing several weeks due to an injury. The Horned Frogs will also welcome guard Haley Cavinder, who signed with TCU in November after she unexpectedly decided to resume her college basketball career and play her final season with the Horned Frogs.

The Horned Frogs do have work to do this offseason. Per, five TCU players have entered the transfer portal — guard Paige Bradley, forward Jade Clack, guard Victoria Flores, forward Sydney Harris and guard/forward Bre’yon White.

TCU has no prep signing for 2024 with the traditional signing period set to being this month.
