Look: Plane Returns from Lexington Carrying Scott Drew’s Family

NCAA Basketball: Baylor at Texas

On the same day that rumors were swirling that Scott Drew was on his way to Lexington, Kentucky, to visit with the Kentucky Wildcats about their opening, his family was seen coming back from a trip to the Bluegrass State.

Darby Brown from KWTX reported on Wednesday evening that a plane coming from Lexington landed in Temple, Texas, around 7:30 pm. Drew didn’t exit the plane, but other members of his family did.

Reports surfaced on Wednesday that Kentucky intended to meet with Drew in the “near future,” and from then on, the flight trackers have been going.

Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio confirmed the reports that Drew was visiting Kentucky on Wednesday and provided more details on how the Wildcats’ involvement with Drew has progressed.

“I think the university has had a view for a while that the first person that was ready to go, is who they go with. And [Billy Donovan] can’t do anything, even take it seriously until after the [NBA] play-in game which is next week. That leaves Drew and Hurley,” Jones said, per Wade Peery of On3. “I think the university has always thought Hurley is a long shot. So, but they’ve talked to both of them, and I think anyone that says Hurley has not been involved, I think they’re completely wrong about that. But I also think [Kentucky AD] Mitch [Barnhart’s] comfort level and the one he thinks probably has the most interest in Kentucky is Drew, hence why the family was brought today. … He’s certainly the favorite, but I also think the Danny Hurley thing is out there.”

So, it sounds like Drew is the clear frontrunner for the job right now, with UConn’s Danny Hurley also in the hunt. Will Drew and the Wildcats strike a deal in the coming hours? We’ll have to wait and see, but it seems it might be time for Baylor fans to prepare for a coaching search.
