The DWI arrest of former standout defensive lineman T’Vondre Sweat continues to affect the Texas Longhorns, as more details from his incident have emerged.

According to an incident report secured by, another driver was listed as being involved in the incident. That driver was identified as Texas linebacker S’Maje Burrell.

Following reports of Burrell’s involvement in the incident, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian has made it clear how the Longhorns intend to handle the situation.


“We’re aware of the situation involving S’Maje Burrell and have suspended him indefinitely from all team activities for conduct detrimental to the program,” Sarkisian said in a statement.

The redshirt freshman from Fort Worth (Tex.) did not play last season but was an exciting prospect for the future of the Longhorns’ defense. Burrell was a four-star recruit in the class of 2023 and ranked as the No. 17 linebacker in the class, according to On3.

Burrell is reportedly expected to enter the transfer portal in hopes of finding a fresh start at another program in 2024-25.
