Indiana State Forward Jayson Kent Transfers to Texas

NCAA Basketball: Houston Christian at Texas

Rodney Terry and the Texas Longhorns added a new player to their roster with the addition of Indiana State transfer forward Jayson Kent.

Kent elected to join the Longhorns after leading the Sycamores to an appearance in the 2024 NIT Championship.

The 6-foot-8 junior forward is coming off an impressive season at Indiana State, where he averaged 13.5 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 0.6 assists per game on 63.9% shooting from the field. His biggest game of the season came in the opening round of the NIT Tournament against SMU on March 20th, where he put up a season-high 35 points with nine rebounds, two steals, and one block.

Kent was unranked by most major recruiting services coming out of high school and elected to play basketball for the Bradley Braves, where he spent two seasons before transferring. He then bloomed into one of the best players in the Missouri Valley Conference and was a big part of Josh Schertz’s success in 2023-24.

With a new face set to take the court as a Longhorn in 2024-25, Rodney Terry will look to continue adding to his roster in hopes of competing for an SEC title in Year One.
