Grant McCasland and the Texas Tech Red Raiders added Drake guard Kevin Overton through the transfer portal, bringing them their first player of the offseason.

Overton, a 6-foot-5 guard from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, was a highly coveted player in the transfer portal. The Red Raiders beat out Houston, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, West Virginia, and others for his services.

Last season with the Bulldogs, Oveton averaged some impressive numbers. He posted 11.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game on 44.0% shooting from the field. Overton also connected on 34.6% of his shots from three. His best game of the season came against Murray State on February 18th, where he posted 23 points, two rebounds, two steals, and one assist.

Coming out of high school in the Class of 2023, Jones was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index. He also checked in as the 37th-ranked player at his position and the sixth-ranked player in the state of Oklahoma.

247Sports’ director of scouting labeled Overton a “late steal” at Drake, and the same can be said for his commitment to Texas Tech. With the Red Raiders already seeing four key members of their squad enter the transfer portal this offseason, Grant McCasland will have more work cut out for him ahead of the 2024-25 season.
