UCF DB Nikai Martinez Enters Transfer Portal

Gus Malzahn and the UCF Knights lost a big name to the transfer portal on Tuesday, with sophomore cornerback Nikai Martinez departing the program.

Martinez has been with the Knights for two seasons after electing to commit in 2022.

In his last season at UCF, Martinez recorded 54 total tackles, three interceptions, and one pass breakup.

Coming out of Apopka High School in the Class of 2022, Martinez was listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 356th-ranked player. He also checked in as the 38th-ranked player at his position and the 45th-ranked player in the state of Florida.

Martinez will hit the portal with two years of eligibility remaining after suiting up as a true freshman in 2022 and a sophomore in 2023.

Martinez was an impressive high school prospect in his class and received offers from 14 different programs. The Florida native chose the Knights over offers from Georgia, Auburn, Cincinnati, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Notre Dame, Penn State, Tennessee, West Virginia, and more.

UCF will now have a new hole to fill ahead of the 2024 season, but with the spring transfer portal open until April 30th, Gus Malzahn should have some options available for replacement.
