Big 12 Baseball Friday Six-Pack: Kansas State Walks Off Oklahoma State in Extras While Texas Tech Puts a Beatdown on West Virginia

Brady Day, Kansas State baseball

Is there anything better than cold beer and baseball? It’s a combination that is hard to beat during the season. No matter what kind of beer you drink (or how many), let’s take a look at some of the best action on the Big 12 baseball diamond from Friday with a nice six pack.

Best Game

#15 Oklahoma State at Kansas State

We got a treat on Friday night in the Little Apple as this game went down the wire in extra innings. Oklahoma State got on the board first as Zach Ehrhard went deep in the third inning

Kansas State answered fairly quickly and even took the lead when Cayden Phillips drove in a run in the fourth inning.

While the Cowboys would retake the lead in the sixth inning, Kansas State tied the game at three when Nick English hit a solo blast in the seventh.

Neither team would score so this game ended up going to extras. It wouldn’t be until the twelfth inning where we saw the first run being scored. The Cowboys were able to put two runs on the board to take a 5-3 lead.

But it was Kansas State who had the final laugh. Raphael Pelletier brought in two runs with his double and then David Bishop ended up being the hero of the night with his walk-off RBI single.

Best Win

Texas Tech over #22 West Virginia

There really isn’t much to say here because the scoreboard tells the whole story. Texas Tech got off to a fast start and never looked back at all in this game. By the time the third inning was over, the Red Raiders had a 6-0 lead. And while West Virginia finally scored in the sixth inning, their hopes pretty much ended in the bottom of the sixth when Austin Green hit a grand slam to make it an 11-2 game and that was it. Texas Tech ended up winning 15-2 on Friday night and it was certainly an outcome I didn’t see coming.

Worst Loss

It’s been a rough week for Texas especially after they lost to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley earlier this week. Then on Friday night, they got shut out against TCU at home. That is completely unacceptable because the Longhorns have enough talent in that lineup of theirs to do something. Now they have their backs against the wall as they will need to win two straight to take the series.

Friday MVP

Texas Tech RF Austin Green

Austin had a big game as he finished with 5 RBIs including this monster grand slam in the sixth inning.

Pitcher of the Day

TCU LHP Payton Tolle

Payton pitched seven full innings and only gave up four hits against Texas on Friday night. He didn’t give up a single run and struck out five batters during his time on the mound.

Best Home Run

Cincinnati DH Tommy O’Connor

Tommy’s two-run shot in the seventh inning gave Cincinnati the lead and helped them win the game.
