Former Ohio State DB Cedrick Hawkins Transfers to UCF

Gus Malzahn and the UCF Knights added a new player to their roster this offseason with the addition of former Ohio State safety Cedrick Hawkins.

Hawkins, a four-star prospect in the Class of 2023, redshirted last season at Ohio State and will now return to the Sunshine State in 2024.

Coming out of Cocoa High School in the Class of 2023, Hawkins was listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 357th-ranked player. He also checked in as the 28th-ranked player at his position and the 59th-ranked player in the state of Florida.

Hawkins heads to Orlando with four years of eligibility remaining after redshirting in 2023 for Ohio State.

Hawkins was an impressive high school prospect in his class and received offers from 22 different programs. The Florida native chose the Buckeyes over offers from Arizona State, Cincinnati, Florida State, Miami, Ole Miss, Tennessee, UCF, West Virginia, and more.

Director of scouting Adrew Ivins spoke on Hawkins prior to his Ohio State commitment, saying, “A feisty defensive back prospect with plenty of experience. He got varsity snaps as an eighth grader at Cocoa and will likely leave the storied program on Florida’s Space Coast with over 250 tackles, nearly 50 pass breakups, and a dozen or so interceptions to his credit. Will likely need some time in a college weight room before he’s ready to go on Saturdays, but he has a chance to be an impact player at the next level given everything that we know.”

With his commitment, UCF’s transfer class has now jumped to the nation’s 30th-ranked spot.
