Former Illinois Forward Amani Hansberry Transfers to West Virginia

NCAA Basketball: Morehead State at West Virginia

Darian DeVries and the West Virginia Mountaineers added their third player this offseason through the transfer portal with the commitment of former Illinois forward Amani Hansberry.

Hansberry committed to join Illinois in the Class of 2023, and after spending his freshman season with the team, he will now head to Morgantown.

Hansberry played in 19 games as a freshman at Illinois, averaging 2.4 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 0.3 assists per game while shooting 45.2% from the field. His biggest game came against Southern on November 19th, when he posted eight points and seven rebounds.

Coming out of Mount Saint Joseph High School in the Class of 2023, Hansberry was listed as a four-star prospect and the nation’s 61st-ranked player by the 247Sports index. He also checked in as the 13th-ranked player at his position and the top-ranked player in the state of Maryland.

With his commitment, Hansberry became West Virginia’s third commitment this offseason, joining former Drake guard Tucker DeVries and former Illinois guard Sencire Harris through the transfer portal.

While West Virginia head coach Darian DeVries still has a long way to go to fill his roster, the additions of DeVries, Harris, and Hansberry are a great start.
