Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners made a major splash on Sunday with the addition of former SMU offensive lineman Branson Hickman.

Hickman was a major addition through the spring portal window as the Texas native earned All-ACC honors in 2023.

Hickman started 33 games during his four seasons at SMU and quickly earned praise as one of the ACC’s best interior offensive linemen.

Coming out of Jesuit High School in the Class of 2020, Hickman was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 2145th-ranked player. He also checked in as the 38th-ranked player at his position and the 280th-ranked player in the state of Texas.

Hickman elected to play for Oklahoma over Arkansas, TCU, and more and will now elect to spend his final season of college eligibility as a Sooner. The addition of Hickman is massive for the Sooners as the team has already experienced some major turmoil at the center position. Oklahoma saw their 2023 starting center Andrew Raym enter his name into the NFL Draft, leaving a vacancy on the offensive line. Then, the team’s expected starter, Troy Everett, suffered a knee injury during practice, which required surgery.

After multiple changes for the Sooners at center, to say Branson Hickman is a huge addition may be an understatement, at this point.
