Texas Lands Arizona Transfer DL Bill Norton

NCAA Football: Texas at West Virginia

Former Arizona senior defensive lineman Bill Norton has found a new home this spring, electing to commit to the Texas Longhorns through the transfer portal.

Norton started his career off at Georgia, and after transferring to Arizona in 2023, the Tennessee native started all 13 games for the Wildcats.

Norton didn’t see much action in his four-year career with the Bulldogs but did see the field a lot under Jedd Fisch in 2023. The senior defensive lineman recorded 31 total tackles, three pass breakups, and two forced fumbles in his fifth season of college football.

Coming out of Christian Brothers High School in the Class of 2019, Norton was listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 100th-ranked prospect. He also checked in as the eighth-ranked player at his position and the third-ranked player in Tennessee.

The addition of Norton is a big one for Texas, as head coach Steve Sarkisian voiced his disdain for the lack of depth on the defensive line in Austin following the team’s spring game. “The depth on the defensive line is not where we need it to be,” Sarkisian said. “Hopefully, we can address that.”

Texas addressed its depth issue by adding a coveted player in the transfer portal who is set to compete in his final season of eligibility.
