Iowa State Lands St. Mary’s Transfer Joshua Jefferson

NCAA Basketball: Iowa State at Houston

T.J. Otzelberger and the Iowa State Cyclones have landed a commitment from St. Mary’s forward Joshua Jefferson to help round out their 2024-25 squad.

Jefferson, listed at 6-foot-8, had interest from several programs after entering the portal and for good reason. He averaged 10.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while shooting 46.9% from the field in 2023-24 and was a major part of the Gaels 26-8 finish to the regular season.

Despite hearing from a number of programs, Jefferson chose to narrow his visit list down to Virginia, UNLV, VCU, and TCU, outside of Iowa State. In the end, the Cyclones landed Jefferson over TCU and Virginia, picking up their final newcomer of the cycle.

“I feel like Iowa State was a perfect fit for me and my play style,” Jefferson said, according to Cyclonefanatic.com. “I wanted to go somewhere that’s going to have national coverage and be able to play against the best teams in the country. That’s what I’m all about – just going out there and finding the best competition and proving to everybody how good I am and just having that confidence in myself. That’s what made Iowa State the perfect fit for me.”

Jefferson represents the fourth portal addition for Iowa State this cycle, joining Seattle PF Brandton Chatfield, UNI SF Nate Heise, and Charlotte C Dishon Jackson.

In addition to the addition of Jefferson, Iowa State has also retained Kayden Fish, who opted to withdraw from the portal and remain with the Cyclones.

With that, Iowa State’s roster is set for next season, as Otzelberger’s group hopes to get back to the Sweet 16 and further next year.
