Tommy Lloyd and the Arizona Wildcats made a big splash in the transfer portal on Wednesday when they added former Oakland forward Trey Townsend.

Townsend, a 6-foot-6 junior from Oxford, Michigan, was the Horizon League Player of the Year after posting some impressive junior season numbers.

Townsend is coming off back-to-back seasons averaging more than 16 points per game after posting 17.3 points per game as a junior and 16.5 as a sophomore. In 2023, Townsend also added 8.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game on 45.5% shooting from the field. The Michigan native also connected on 37.5% of his threes last season with the Grizzlies.

While most major recruiting services listed Townsend as an unranked prospect when he graduated from high school, he worked his way into one of the biggest names in the transfer portal after three years at Oakland. The 247Sports index listed him as a four-star transfer prospect, the 58th-ranked overall player portal, and the 10th-ranked player at his position.

With Tommy Lloyd and the Wildcats getting set for their first season as members of the Big 12 Conference in 2024-25, the addition of Trey Townsend is sure to go a long way toward competing in their new league.
