Kansas State G RJ Jones Enters Transfer Portal

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament East Regional Practice

Jerome Tang and the Kansas State Wildcats are losing a player to the transfer portal on Wednesday, with four-star guard RJ Jones electing to depart the program.

Jones committed to join Kansas State in the Class of 2024 and spent one season in Manhattan under Jerome Tang. The Athletic’s Tobias Bass was the first to report the news.

While Jones did not see the court much in his freshman season with the Wildcats, he did have some big moments off the bench for Jerome Tang’s squad. Jones was a reliable rotation player for Kansas State in 2023-24, averaging 2.4 points and 0.8 rebounds per game in his first season of college basketball.

Coming out of Wasatch Academy in the Class of 2024, Jones was listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 77th-ranked player. He also checked in as the 11th-ranked player at his position and the top-ranked player in the state of Texas.

While the loss of RJ Jones does provide a new vacancy for Tang and company to address in the offseason, the Wildcats have a full slate of visitors set for this week, which likely contributed to Jones’ decision. Kansas State is hosting two major transfer portal targets on Wednesday and should have a shot at addressing Jones’ departure with one or multiple players from the transfer portal.
