Texas Lands Oregon State Transfer Guard Jordan Pope

NCAA Basketball: Houston Christian at Texas

Rodney Terry and the Texas Longhorns made a big splash in the transfer portal on Wednesday when they added former Oregon State guard Jordan Pope.

Pope, a 6-foot-2 sophomore from Oakley, California, has been a special player for the Beavers in his first two seasons of college basketball.

Pope is coming off back-to-back seasons averaging more than 12 points per game after posting 17.6 points per game as a sophomore and 12.6 as a freshman. In 2023-24, Pope also added 2.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game on 45.1% shooting from the field. The California native also connected on 37.1% of his threes last season with the Beavers.

Coming out of Prolific Prep High School in the Class of 2022, Pope was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 171st-ranked prospect. He also checked in as the 23rd-ranked player at his position and the 20th-ranked player in the state of California.

With Rodney Terry and the Longhorns getting set for their first season as members of the SEC in 2024-25, the team has pulled out all the stops to land top players this offseason. With his commitment, Pope joins a pair of former Indiana State Sycamores, Julian Larry and Jayson Kent, as well as former Arkansas Razorback Tremon Mark.
